Privacy Policy - Personal Smart Spend (Android)
This Privacy Policy describes how Personal Smart Spend (the "App", "we", "our", or "us") handles information when you use the Android application Personal Smart Spend (package: com.personalsmartspend.app) and our official hosted privacy policy page.
Personal Smart Spend is a local-first personal finance app. Your financial records are intended to stay on your device unless you choose to back them up, export them, or share them.
- Your transactions, budgets, goals, recurring rules, categories, profiles, reminders, and most settings are stored locally on your device.
- We do not upload your financial records to our own servers as part of normal app use.
- The App may use Google AdMob, Firebase Analytics, Firebase Crashlytics, and Google Play billing, depending on your settings, consent choices, and Android device configuration.
- Analytics and crash reporting are optional and controlled inside the App.
- The free version may show ads. Premium subscriptions through Google Play may remove ads and unlock premium features.
- You can manage privacy and consent choices inside the App under Settings > Privacy & Consent.
1. Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to the Personal Smart Spend Android app, the in-app privacy sheet and privacy settings, and our official hosted privacy policy page.
2. Information You Enter and Store Locally
A. Financial and app data stored on your device
The App stores finance and app data locally on your device so features can work. This may include:
- Expense, income, transfer, and account records
- Categories, income sources, notes, labels, and custom settings
- Budgets, goals, goal contributions, and recurring transaction rules
- Dashboard layout choices, tracking mode, time filters, and app preferences
- Reminder settings, alert thresholds, month-start-day settings, and notification preferences
- Activity log entries, notification history, and retention preferences
- Profile names and optional profile photo file-path references
- Security settings such as app-lock configuration and lock timeout
Profile photos selected in the App are copied into local app storage on your device. We do not upload profile photos to our own servers.
We do not collect or store this financial data on our own servers.
B. Limited technical, ad, store, and support data
Depending on your settings, consent choices, device configuration, and platform services used by the App, third-party SDKs or providers may process limited information such as:
- Device model, Android version, locale, and app version
- Crash reports and diagnostics data
- Performance and usage events such as screen views or feature interactions
- Advertising identifiers, ad impressions, ad interactions, and consent state
- Google Play entitlement or purchase status needed to verify Premium access
- Technical metadata related to permissions, notifications, or platform services
This limited technical data does not include your financial ledger unless you choose to include it yourself in a screenshot, export, backup, or support message.
C. Support communications
If you contact us by email, we may receive:
- Your email address
- The contents of your message
- Any files, screenshots, or other information you choose to send
3. How We Use Information
We use information to:
- Run finance and profile features locally on your device
- Save your settings, privacy choices, and security preferences
- Show and measure ads in the free version
- Diagnose crashes and improve app stability
- Understand general feature usage and improve the App
- Verify Premium entitlement through Google Play
- Provide support when you contact us
We do not use your financial records for advertising targeting, and we do not sell your financial records.
4. Local Files, Backups, Exports, and Sharing
The App may create or manage local files when you use features such as backup and restore, CSV export, PDF report generation, data import/export, and file sharing through the system share sheet.
Backup files can be created with optional passphrase encryption. If you choose not to encrypt a backup, you are responsible for storing it in a secure location.
The App does not automatically sync your financial records to our own servers or to cloud storage. If you save or share files through email, cloud storage, messaging apps, or another service, those services handle the file under their own privacy policies.
For security, backup/export flows are designed to exclude certain sensitive local-only items, such as app-lock PIN material and locally cached Premium entitlement flags.
5. Permissions and Android Device Access
The App may request or use Android device features only for features you choose to use, such as:
- Notifications: for reminders, budget alerts, recurring activity notices, and backup reminders
- Device restart handling: so scheduled reminders can be restored after a device restart
- Biometric or device authentication: for app lock or PIN-related verification flows
- Photos, media, or files: for choosing a profile photo, importing data, restoring backups, or saving/exporting files through Android picker flows
- Internet / network access: for ads, consent flows, analytics, crash reporting, Google Play billing, and related Google services
- Motion sensors: on supported devices, accelerometer data may be processed locally to support the optional double-shake "hide balances" privacy gesture
On supported Android versions, the App may request notification permission when you enable reminder features. The App is also configured to avoid broad media-read permissions where possible and instead uses Android photo/file picker flows for user-selected content.
6. Ads, Consent, Analytics, and Crash Reporting
The App may use the following third-party services:
- Google AdMob
- Firebase Analytics
- Firebase Crashlytics
- Google Play Services and related Google mobile services
The free version may show banner, interstitial, or native ads. Depending on your consent state, region, and platform support, ads may be personalized or non-personalized.
You can manage privacy controls in Settings > Privacy & Consent, including usage analytics, crash-report sharing, whether ads are allowed, whether personalized ads are allowed, and whether ad consent should be reviewed or refreshed.
Your financial records are not sent to ad, analytics, or crash-report providers as part of normal app operation.
7. Premium Subscriptions and Google Play Payments
Personal Smart Spend may offer Premium subscriptions, such as 1 month, 3 months, and 1 year plans, through Google Play.
Payments are processed by Google Play. We do not collect or store your payment card details.
To enable Premium on your device, the App may locally store limited entitlement details such as whether Premium is active, the active product identifier, and the last entitlement verification time.
8. Security and Privacy Controls
Personal Smart Spend includes local privacy and security controls such as:
- Optional app PIN lock
- Optional device-authentication verification for security actions
- Hide-balances mode for privacy in public spaces
- Optional encrypted backups
- Profile separation so one profile's data does not mix with another
- Activity-log retention and clear-history controls
When supported by the platform, app-lock PIN material is stored using secure storage. We use reasonable safeguards for app functionality and local storage, but no method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure.
9. Smart Insights
The App may generate Smart Insights from records already stored on your device, such as spending history, income, budgets, goals, balances, and timeframe-based summaries.
These insights are used for in-app guidance and do not replace professional financial, legal, tax, accounting, or investment advice.
10. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell your financial records.
We may share limited technical data with service providers only as needed to support:
- Advertising and ad measurement
- Analytics and performance monitoring
- Crash diagnostics
- Billing and subscription verification
- Security, fraud prevention, and service reliability
Those providers process data under their own privacy policies and terms.
11. Data Retention and Deletion
Local app data
Your local records remain on your device until you delete them, reset the app or profile, overwrite them with a restore/import, or uninstall the App.
Profiles and activity history
Profiles can be created and deleted separately inside the App. Activity log history can be cleared without deleting your finance records.
Exported or shared files
Backup, CSV, PDF, and export files remain wherever you save or share them until you delete them.
Third-party technical data
Retention of ad, analytics, crash, or billing-related technical data is governed by the relevant third-party provider.
12. International Data Processing
If you use the App outside your home country, limited technical data handled by third-party providers may be processed in other countries according to those providers' own practices.
Your financial records entered into the App are intended to remain on your device unless you choose to export, back up, or share them.
13. Children's Privacy
Personal Smart Spend is not directed to children under 13, or the minimum age required by applicable law in your jurisdiction. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through our own servers.
If you believe a child has provided personal information to us through support communications, contact us and we will review and delete it where appropriate.
14. Your Choices and Rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights regarding personal information, such as rights to access, deletion, correction, or withdrawal of consent.
Inside the App, you can generally:
- Manage analytics, crash-report, and ad-personalization settings
- Review or refresh ad consent options where supported
- Delete local data by removing records, deleting a profile, resetting data, or uninstalling the App
- Control notifications through Android system settings
- Limit ad tracking or reset advertising identifiers through Android or Google settings where available

15. Third-Party Services
